A Student's Guide to Knowing More than Your Martial Arts Master fulfills the author's desire to make conveniently available the analysis that will increase the student's, Instructor's and Master Instructor's knowledge and wisdom training at any level for those with little academic knowledge about the style or styles they have trained in for many years in the physical aspects of their style. A Student's Guide for Knowing More than your Martial arts Master is for the student, Instructor and Master Instructor because it is comprised of previously unpublished academic analysis of the many style's and characteristics that comprises the several dozen martial arts styles included. It is hoped that this information will increase the likelihood of students having a positive experience and motivate students to reach Black Belt and Black Belts to continue to train and learn both physically and academically to Master levels. The author includes simplified and complex explanations of movements, techniques and applications that will expand a readers knowledge-synthesized by the author from the traditional Korean, Okinawa, Chinese, Japanese and American styles that are in every style including the Kata, Kuens, Hyungs and Poomsae. The author begins by exploding some of the myths of Karate, Taekwondo, Chuan Fa and Tang Soo Do as a noble martial art, and the reader can rest assured that those who take great pride in breaking boards, smashing tiles, or perform outlandish feats of stripping flesh or plucking ribs, really know little about the empty hand self defense style they purport to have mastered but are just doing side show tricks. Philosophically, these people are playing in the leaves and branches of a great tree, without the slightest concept of the existence of a trunk. In the description of the styles of Karate, Taekwondo, Chuan Fa (Kung Fu), Taekwondo and Tang Soo Do, the author describes the origins of the ancient unarmed combat in China, Korea and Japan and its explosive growth from the 20th century. The author recognized the need to formulate precisely the communications and explanations between Master and student for what is being taught and why it is taught, to establish a foundation of factual knowledge rather than use self discovery that is the traditional Asian way. The many charts, tables and graphs are not traditional physical training but they serve to establish a basis of understanding of the many aspects of every style's Instruction, thought and action, and facilitate the mastery both in the physical and academic aspects of the true requirements for the several dozen of styles of martial arts analyzed. All these unique characteristics are clearly explained by charts and tables that allow full comparisons between styles and systems never available in the past Lastly, the author recalls the explosion in information by way of oral traditions from the conditions that were present post-World War II and the Korean War that caused the greatest expansion in the teaching and learning of martial arts in history. No martial arts Master Instructor wants students and Instructors to read this book because it shows clearly how much more their is too learn. Most of the characteristics of the styles and the people that train in these styles are dissected by the author in this book so that reader can grasp and quantify the commonalities and differences between the several dozen styles included. This is a book of high academic proportion and intellectual significance only for the martial arts community, whose primary focus is on the kick-punch, physical aspects and just as almost everything published today in an academic sense about Korean martial arts is a result of the authors previously published works over the past 3 decades, the authors wants any other publications by other authors to this body of work.
